This Privacy Policy explains what PeerLink collects, why we collect it, who can see it, and what you can do about it. We wrote it in plain words. If something is unclear, contact us.
1. Security and encryption
- Encrypted calls: voice and video calls, and files sent directly between two people, are encrypted. Nobody in between, including us, can listen in.
- Secure connection: everything else you send to PeerLink travels over a secure (HTTPS) connection.
- Messages: a message that cannot be delivered right away is held on our server until it is delivered, and then removed from the waiting list.
- Passwords and codes: your password is never stored as readable text. Verification and password-reset codes are also stored in a protected form.
- No system is perfectly safe. Please use a strong password and keep it to yourself.
2. Information we collect
- Account details: display name, @username, e-mail address, phone number (optional), country, profile photo, bio and, if you add one, business details.
- What you create: messages, groups, files, 24-hour stories, posts, photos, videos, comments, likes and who you follow.
- Connection information: your network address (IP address), approximate location worked out from it, device and browser type, sign-in times, call times and lengths. We use this to keep your account safe, stop abuse, and make calls connect.
- Device permissions you allow: see section 3.
- Support messages: what you write to Support and our replies.
- Guests: if you continue as a guest we do not ask for an e-mail or phone number. We keep a short record of the guest visit (name shown, time, permissions you allowed) for up to 180 days.
3. Device permissions
PeerLink asks for these permissions only to do the job described. You can say no, and you can change your mind any time in Settings → App Permissions & Device Access or in your phone or browser settings. Some features will not work without them.
| Permission | What we use it for |
|---|---|
| Camera | Video calls, photos, stories, posts and live video. Used only when you start or answer one of these. Never in the background. |
| Microphone | Calls, voice messages and live video. Used only while you do these. Never in the background. |
| Location | Your country and approximate area, to fill in your country code and to protect your account from unknown sign-ins. Exact location is used only if you choose to share your location. |
| Contacts | Only when you tap Sync Contacts, to show which of your contacts already use PeerLink. |
| Storage | Saving your chats, photos, files and voice messages on your own device, and sending files you choose. |
| SMS codes | Filling in the 6-digit code we text you when you sign up, sign in or reset your password. PeerLink cannot read your other text messages. |
| Nearby devices | Finding and linking with people close to you when the internet is weak or gone, so messages and calls can still get through. |
| Bluetooth | Sending call sound to a headset, earbuds or car, and linking with people close to you when there is no internet. |
| Wi-Fi and network state | Knowing whether you are on Wi-Fi or mobile data, so we can adjust call quality and keep a call going when you switch. |
| Hotspot | Recognising a hotspot or a shared local network so people on it can link with each other quickly. |
| Notifications | Ringing for incoming calls and showing new-message alerts when the app is closed or in the background. |
4. Calls, live video and your connection address
- To keep calls and live video fast and cheap, PeerLink connects devices directly with each other whenever it can. When that happens, the people you are connected with can technically see your network address (IP address), as on any direct internet connection. If you do not want this, do not join calls or live videos.
- While you watch a live video, your device may help pass that video on to other viewers. This uses a small amount of your internet data and battery, and it stops when you leave the live video.
- We do not record your calls. If you use the call recorder, the recording is saved only on your own device.
5. How we use your information
- To run PeerLink: create your account, connect your messages and calls, and show your posts.
- To keep people safe: find spam, fraud and abuse, protect accounts, and handle reports.
- To help you: answer Support requests and recover accounts.
- To pay creators and run ads: count qualified views, keep payout records and run advertising, as explained in sections 8 and 9.
- To improve PeerLink: understand how features are used.
- We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your messages, calls or identity papers for advertising.
6. How long we keep things
- Accounts: an account that never finished verification is removed after 30 days without use. A verified account is removed after 6 months (180 days) without use. Every sign-in restarts the clock.
- Stories and posts: removed automatically after the time shown on them (stories after 24 hours).
- Files in chats: removed automatically after a set time on our server.
- Guest visits: a guest session is erased when its timer ends. The short guest record is kept up to 180 days.
- Records we must keep: payment, payout and advertising records are kept for accounting, legal duties and fraud checks, even after an account is deleted.
7. Who can see your information
- Other users: your name, @username, photo, bio and posts. When someone searches for you, your phone number and e-mail are hidden.
- PeerLink Support: only the authorised Support team can see account, security and support records. Every look at identity papers is logged.
- Service providers: companies that help us run PeerLink, such as hosting, e-mail and SMS sending, cloud file storage, and Google for ads. They may only use the information to do that work.
- Law and safety: we may share information if the law requires it or to protect people from serious harm.
8. Posts, Creator Reward and verification
- Posts: your posts, likes, comments and who you follow are stored on our server. Posts and their photos are deleted automatically after the time shown on the post.
- Creator Reward: we store how many qualified views your posts received, your reward balance and your payout history. Payout details (such as a bKash number or bank account) are stored in a protected form, shown to you only in hidden form, and visible only to Support when paying you.
- Business verification (only if you apply): you may send a selfie, a photo of one identity document, business details, and bank or crypto wallet details. These are stored in a protected form, are visible only to the Support team, are never used for advertising, and are erased automatically some days after Support decides. You can delete your application at any time in Settings → Blue tick.
9. Advertising
- Advertising (guests only): when advertising is switched on, guest visitors and visitors to our public pages may see ads served by Google AdSense. Signed-in accounts do not see Google ads. Ads are never shown during calls or inside conversations.
- Google and cookies: third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's earlier visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our site and/or other sites on the internet.
- Your choices: you can opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ad Settings, or at aboutads.info. To learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services, see policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. More details are on our Cookies & Ads page.
- Sponsored posts in Updates: ads in the Updates tab are chosen only by your country and the tab you are viewing. We count views and clicks to charge advertisers and to catch fraud. Advertisers see only totals, never who you are. Viewing an ad never earns you anything.
- Advertisers: if you advertise, we store your ad text, picture or video, link, budget, payment method, transaction ID, review notes and billing history. These records are kept permanently for accounting, legal duties and fraud checks, even after an ad ends or your account is deleted.
10. Your choices and rights
- Permissions: change them any time (see section 3).
- Privacy settings: turn read receipts and story visibility on or off in Settings → Privacy. Block anyone from their contact card.
- See, correct or export: ask Support for a copy of your information or to fix it.
- Delete: open Settings → Account → Delete account to erase your account and the information linked to it. Records we must keep by law (section 6) stay.
- Where the law gives you more rights (for example in the European Economic Area, the UK or California) you may also object to or limit how we use your information. Contact us and we will answer within a reasonable time.
11. Children
PeerLink is not for children under 13 (or under the age required by law in your country). We do not knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Where information is kept
Your information is stored on servers we run or rent, and with the providers named in section 7. These may be in other countries. We protect it as described in this policy wherever it is.
13. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. If a change is big, we will tell you in the app.
